The Quartite Architecture of Mind

The Quartite Architecture of Mind

Mapping the 256 Phenomenological Chains of Consciousness via the Metacognitive Matrix

The Four Domains of Consciousness

The framework shifts from a traditional tripartite model to a Quartite model. Consciousness is the trajectory of signals racing through these four foundational nodes.

πŸƒ

Sensorimotor (Sm)

Kairos

Relates to embodied experience, action, physical movement, and situational exigence or timing.

❀️

Affective (Af)

Pathos

Relates to emotions, moods, feelings, and the biological salience of any given experience.

🧠

Cognitive (Co)

Logos

Relates to logic, reasoning, thoughts, interpretations, and the process of meaning-making.

πŸ›‘οΈ

Ethos (Et)

Conative Stance

Relates to volition, motivation, will, identity, and deep adherence to ideals and values.

The Trajectory of Self

Consciousness is not static. It is a dynamic emergent property defined by the path of a signal weaving between the domains. This WebGL visualization maps a common spiral trajectory: an emotion (Affective) triggering analysis (Cognitive) which solidifies into a firm stance (Ethos) before resulting in action (Sensorimotor).

The Permutation Matrix

The 4×4 grid generates a total of 256 unique 4-step phenomenological chains. Each quadrant originates from a different primary domain, creating entirely distinct lived experiences.

Affective Initiated (64 Chains)

Starting point: Emotion, Mood, or Felt Value. Often characterized by reactive loops or deep dives into personal meaning before logic or action can intervene.

Cognitive Initiated (64 Chains)

Starting point: Thoughts or Interpretations. Driven by analysis, where understanding triggers feelings or plans leading to calculated action.

Ethos Initiated (64 Chains)

Starting point: Intention, Will, or Identity. Starts with a commitment or vow, which then colors subsequent thoughts, feelings, and physical manifestations.

Sensorimotor Initiated (64 Chains)

Starting point: Body or Movement. Sensation triggers the loop, such as fatigue leading to frustration, or physical momentum feeding into joy.

Decoding Phenomenological Chains

Mental episodes are defined by specific dynamic patterns moving through the cells. By isolating these chains, we can identify “broken links” or “infinite loops” causing distress, or flow states causing mastery.

Personality as Preferred Trajectory

Personality is not a static list of traits, but a habit of routing the signal. The chart below illustrates different “preferred trajectories” mapping the relative dominance of domains within typical cognitive loops for different archetypes.

Application of the MRRT

By identifying where a chain gets stuck, practitioners can intentionally shift processing to a different domain, breaking loops and relieving gridlock. The Quartite model acts as a phenomenological microscope for intentional action.
